Are you CE Mark compliant?

What is the CE mark?

As of the 1st July 2013 the CE mark will be a required legal standard for customers who place products on the market in the European Economic Area. The CE mark itself relates to customers who wish to sell windows and door sets in the EU market, the standard certifies that the product has been tested met specific guidelines to protect end consumers and fabricators when they sell over seas.

Who is responsible?

The company who brings the product to market is responsible for the product and to make sure it has been CE certified. If an installer buys frames from one supplier and glass from another then it is the installers responsibility for issuing the CE mark, however if the installer buys the frames and glass together then it is the responsibility of the fabricator to supply the CE mark to the installer who can then pass it on.

What do I need?

The relevant product standards to achieve the CE marking are: BS EN 14351-1:2006 + A:2010 for window and doors BS EN 1279 for insulated glass units In order to prove that the product has been correctly CE marked the fabricator has to have completed 5 main steps: A written factory production control system (FPC) Initial type testing (ITT) – Including thermal transmittance (U-values) and safety devices. A declaration of performance (DoP) CE Labelling The CE mark applies to the finished door/window sets not the individual items sold separately, however the products will have to be tested to and pass the required standards to allow the fabricator to fit them and pass the CE mark standards.
